Chapter 3: Basic principles of ultrasound and artefacts

A strong foundation in ultrasound imaging is essential for every endosonographer. In this chapter, you will learn how ultrasound works. You’ll learn the basic principles of ultrasound—how sound waves create images—and how different tissues and structures appear during an EUS exam.

You’ll learn the concept of imaging artefacts in EUS. In particular, you will learn to recognize acoustic shadowing and appreciate how identifying this artefact helps you to find pathology, such as stones.
